Technology entrepreneur Sonny Sehgal, CEO, Transputec discusses how companies can grow through digital transformation despite the challenges posed by Covid-19.

What do you currently do?

I am the CEO of Transputec a leading IT Services company in the UK with operations and staff globally. We invest heavily in research and development (R&D) to provide first class solutions and services to clients. Most recently, we launched Thermavis Multi-Person Thermal Scanner to help organisations deliver instant temperature checks to ensure a smooth return to work during the Covid-19 outbreak.

What was the inspiration behind your business?

I loved technology from childhood and wanted to develop applications and deliver these solutions that made a difference. I was always frustrated at the speed of delivery in large corporations and wanted to make a difference both in terms of innovation and the speed at which IT solutions were deployed. At Transputec our culture is to move quickly, addressing the technology needs of organisations now and in the future.

What defines your way of doing business?

I lead by example and I operate an open-door policy to all staff providing clear guidelines and direction and expecting the best. We are dedicated and focused, and we strive to continuously innovate. We also know that our people are our most valuable asset and work hard to nurture their careers and skills.

What do you admire?

I admire a lot of things, but mostly I admire my parents for giving me the education and guidance needed at the early stages to always strive to achieve more. That foundation enabled me to start my own business and have confidence to take risks.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

There are lots of mistakes I’ve made in the past, but I regard those as part of my learning and education which helps me make better informed decisions. I do not dwell too long on the past and move quick to make swift remedial actions for the future.

What advice would you give to someone starting out?

Firstly, have a clear direction on what you want to achieve, then do your research to make sure what you are trying to achieve.

Then plan and plan further ensuring your finances, people and direction of travel are clear. I always have a plan for the worst-case scenario, with that comfortably in anyone’s mind, anything better than that is only going to be a positive.
